Managing Your Stress and Anxiety: A Parent's Guide to Back-to-School

Mom walking child to school

As a parent, it's natural to feel a mix of emotions as your child prepares to return to school. While you want to ensure their success, you may also experience stress and anxiety about their well-being. Here are some tools and strategies to help you manage your own feelings and provide a supportive environment for your child:

  1. Self-Care: Prioritize your own mental and physical health. Engaging in activities that help you relax and recharge, moving your body, meditation, or spending time in nature are a few suggestions we always mention to clients.

  2. Open Communication: Talk openly with your partner, a trusted friend or a life coach about your feelings. Sharing what you are experiencing can help reduce stress and provide emotional support you may need during this time.

  3. Limit Screen Time: Excessive screen time can contribute to anxiety and stress. Set boundaries for yourself (and your child) to minimize distractions and promote a calmer atmosphere.

  4. Practice Mindfulness: Incorporate mindfulness techniques into your daily routine. This can be a simple 2 minute mindful breathing exercise. Mindfulness can help you stay in the present moment, reduce stress, and improve your overall well-being.

Remember, your child is more likely to feel secure and supported when YOU are calm and present. By first taking care of yourself, you can create a positive and nurturing back to school experience for both you and your child.
